The story takes place in the distant year of 2057, where the gradual depletion of the sun poses the greatest crisis humanity has ever faced. If sunlight is lost, the earth will be plunged into darkness and freeze, forever unable to see the light of day again. To save the planet, an action team of eight members is formed, consisting of the composed Captain Kainda (played by Hiroyuki Sanada), botanical expert Karenzo (played by Michelle Yeoh), sailing expert Tre (played by Benedict Wong), physicist Kapa (played by Cillian Murphy), pilot Cassie (played by Rose Byrne) and her assistant Mas (played by Chris Evans), commander Harvey (played by Troy Garity), and Dr. Cyril (played by Cliff Curtis).
