The story is set in Germany during World War I. Manfred von Richthofen is a German pilot known for his impressive record of shooting down 80 enemy aircraft, earning him the title of the ace of aces, and he is nicknamed the "Red Baron." This film is adapted from the life of this legendary figure. Manfred (played by Matthias Schweighöfer) comes from a noble family and has dreamed of flying since childhood. After becoming a German pilot, he earns respect for his exceptional skills and unique combat style, even from the enemy pilots he shoots down. During one battle, Manfred shoots down British ace pilot Brown and, upon confirming his kill, discovers that Brown is merely injured, so he saves his life. In this process, he meets a beautiful nurse (played by Lena Headey) and falls in love with her at first sight. In 1917, Manfred becomes Germany's top ace pilot and is awarded the highest medal personally by the Emperor.
