This is a true film that authentically depicts the history of the Japanese surprise attack on Pearl Harbor. The U.S. military intervened in the Pacific battlefield, and the highest-ranking Japanese commander, Yamamoto Isoroku (played by Sô Yamamura), believed that the U.S. military was powerful and that a quick victory was necessary; fighting a prolonged war with the Americans was inadvisable. Thus, he initiated the plan for the surprise attack on Pearl Harbor. Although the U.S. military had intercepted Japanese communications previously indicating that a surprise attack might occur, most paid little attention, and the contents of the messages were not reported. Even on the day of the attack, when a soldier in the U.S. military noticed an unusual group of planes on radar, the U.S. commanders still thought it was their own planes on a patrol mission. This ultimately led to the success of the Japanese surprise attack, resulting in heavy losses for the U.S. military. Yamamoto Isoroku became the greatest thorn in the side of the Americans.
