The story tells of a wealthy young master who, during the late Qing Dynasty and early Republic of China, rushes home from a provincial city to attend his brother-in-law's funeral after he dies unexpectedly. One night, on his way home, he saves a girl from a forest. Later, he discovers that the girl is beautiful and brings her back to his house to work as a maid, attending to his parents. The girl's name is Li Niang, and over time, the young master falls in love with her. On their wedding night, Li Niang is possessed by a malevolent ghost. The family hires a Taoist priest to subdue the ghost and seals it within a mirror, but this is just the beginning of a series of terrifying supernatural events. Mysterious objects worshipped in the Buddhist hall, terrifying screams from the family patriarch, and the bizarre deaths of people in the household will unveil a little-known story from an ancient dynasty.
