Maria (played by Julie Andrews) is a young and lively nun who loves to sing loudly in nature, often forgetting the rules of the monastery. The headmistress believes Maria does not belong in a strictly governed convent. After consulting with the other sisters, the headmistress decides to send Maria to be a governess at the home of a Colonel named Von Trapp (played by Christopher Plummer). The colonel's wife has passed away many years ago, leaving behind seven children, and he insists on strict discipline. He informs Maria that previous governesses at his home did not last long due to the children's mischief. Indeed, Maria encounters the mischief, but this kind teacher does not report them to their father; instead, she cares for the children like a mother, quickly forming a bond with them. Gradually, the colonel also changes his attitude towards the children under Maria's influence. A romance blossoms between the colonel and Maria, and after they get married, they return to Austria, which has been occupied by the Nazis. The colonel is reluctant to work for the Nazis, and the family prepares to escape...
