In the deep mountains of Canada, Logan (Hugh Jackman), known as 'Wolverine', bears the suffering of immortality and lives in seclusion. During a confrontation with hunters, he receives help from a Japanese woman named Yukio (Rila Fukushima). Yukio is an old acquaintance of Logan from World War II, sent by Yoshida, who wishes to see Logan one last time before he passes away. Across the ocean, Logan finally meets the frail Yoshida, who hopes that Logan can protect his granddaughter, Mariko (Haley Aull). As the old man passes away, conflict suddenly erupts during the funeral. With Yukio's help, Logan fights to rescue Mariko, while Yoshida's son Shingen (Hiroyuki Sanada) seems to have his own agenda.
