The beautiful small-town teacher Stella (played by Elizabeth Banks) receives various care from local tycoon Grant (played by Michael Rooker) after her mother's passing. Despite her many dissatisfaction after marrying him, she still strives to be a qualified wife. After a fight, Grant storms out and is invaded by a mysterious alien creature. The following morning, he returns home with a drastically changed personality. Meanwhile, pets in the town start to mysteriously disappear, and Brenda (played by Brenda James), a girl who had been drinking with Grant in a bar, also goes missing. When Stella discovers Grant’s decaying and mutated face, terrified, she seeks help from the town sheriff Bill and his officers (played by Nathan Fillion), but everyone is so frightened that Grant escapes. They decide to hunt down Grant at a nearby farm, but this unexpectedly leads to the widespread emergence of the strange creature, putting the entire town in extreme danger.
