In the fall of 2010, World Health Organization official Rei Dan (played by Riko Kobayashi) traveled to the Philippines with the team to combat avian influenza, and the outbreak was quickly brought under control. However, some infected individuals left the quarantine zone without permission. The following year, at a public hospital in Tokyo, a high fever patient admitted by Dr. Satoshi Tsumabuki (played by Satoshi Tsumabuki) suddenly deteriorated after admission, coughing up blood and dying. The patient's family and some doctors also fell ill due to infection. At the same time, avian influenza virus was detected in a nearby chicken farm, disrupting the peaceful life of farm owner Kamikura and his daughter (Chizuru Ikewaki). Rei Dan was tasked with guiding the epidemic prevention efforts and old acquaintance Satoshi Tsumabuki served as her assistant. The epidemic quickly spread, with the death toll reaching two thousand within a month, causing panic and international concern, prompting the government to rapidly seal off the affected areas. Satoshi Tsumabuki accidentally discovered that the source of the virus might be elsewhere, and results from overseas tests supported his assessment. He decided to travel abroad to investigate the source of the outbreak. In the face of an unprecedented epidemic, each of them—Satoshi Tsumabuki, Rei Dan, and Kamikura—would face tests of their own choices.
