North America was destroyed after a great war, and on the ruins of what was once the United States, people built a new home. However, the new regime stipulated that 12 districts under its jurisdiction must send tribute boys and girls each year to participate in a live television show called 'The Hunger Games.' The rules of the show are simple: kill or be killed. Katniss Everdeen (played by Jennifer Lawrence) sees her sister unfortunate enough to be chosen on the 'Reaping Day' in District 12, and in order to protect her sister, Katniss volunteers to take her place in the games.
