In early 1949, as the Jiang family dynasty faced its end, the battleship 'Gulang' docked on the Huangpu River was equally in a state of uncertainty. The enemy ship's captain (played by Liu Qiong), seeing the inevitable downfall, ordered the ship to escape, provoking outrage among some righteous sailors on board. Sailor Chen Chunguang (played by Zhao Dan) recounted stories of the unity and camaraderie of the People's Liberation Army, stirring everyone's desire to break free from their immediate predicament. After reaching Taiwan, the sights and experiences further fueled their hatred, as American soldiers openly bullied the Chinese people. One night at a nightclub, Chunguang and Dou Erpeng (played by Cui Wei) witnessed an American soldier harassing waitress Wen Mengyuan (played by Wang Danfeng). Enraged, Chunguang and Erpeng stepped in to confront the American soldier, resulting in Mengyuan losing her job. Where was the way out? Following secret discussions led by Chen Chunguang and others, they decided to turn to the light and stage a rebellion aboard the ship. This stirred up a great deal of turmoil, and the reactionary officers on the ship could not stand idly by; they immediately organized forces to suppress the uprising, unaware that most of the sailors had already rallied under Chen Chunguang's leadership.
