In the winter of 1946, after three victories in the battles of Su Bei, our East China Field Army strategically retreated into Shandong. The enemy's 74th Division believed our army was in disarray and, in coordination with Jiang's forces of 200,000, pushed towards Linyi, attempting to encircle us from the north and south with the enemy in Jinan. Shen Zhenxin (played by Zhang Fa) led his troops, following the East China command, and first launched the Battle of Laiwu, achieving victory. After the battle, company commander Shi Donggen (played by Yang Zaibao) drunkenly rode wildly, only to be sternly reprimanded by Shen Zhenxin, and upon sobering up, Shi felt remorseful. Ah Ju (played by Zhang Guilan) traveled thousands of miles to Shandong to find Yang Jun (played by Song Guifu), demanding to join the army for revenge. At this time, the Kuomintang had gathered hundreds of thousands of troops in the Yimeng Mountains, forcing our army into a decisive battle; Zhang Lingfu (played by Shu Shi)'s 74th Division was at the forefront. Our East China forces quickly implemented a counter-encirclement, with the battlefield set in Menglianggu in Mengyin.
