In the 1930s, Wanjiacun and Shahe Town were filled with grievances over the争夺 of water sources. Zhao Shijun, a talented man from Shahe Town, decided to resolve the conflicts between the two places by marrying Qiu Ling, the weak and sickly but kind and wise only daughter of the Wanjiacun village chief Wan Daqquan, while burying his love for another woman, Shen Xinci, deep in his heart.
