The film depicts the tragic scenes of Eastern Europe during World War II from the perspective of a young boy. The boy's parents send him to the countryside for refuge, but they lose contact with him. The boy begins to wander between various villages. Due to his black hair and black eyes, the villagers believe he is a gypsy and that he will bring misfortune to the village, tormenting him in various ways. He has been buried in the ground with only his head sticking out, and crows have pecked at him, leaving him battered. He witnesses people devouring each other in the fierce chain of violence, degradation, and ignorance. When he lies on the railway tracks, feeling the train rush over him, he experiences a joy of survival despite the humiliation. The film presents an exquisite visual texture under black and white lighting, unfolding a surreal chronicle of war through a magical perspective.
