In the last few months of World War II, 22-year-old Hiroo Onoda was conscripted into the army and received guerrilla warfare and intelligence training at a Japanese military school. Although news of Japan's surrender continued to arrive, Onoda and his teammates regarded it as a deceptive tactic.They hid in the jungle, living on banana peels, coconuts, and stolen rice. Even surrounded by snakes, insects, and rodents, they would never surrender due to hunger. Even when Japanese search parties found them, it was considered a tactic to lure them into surrendering. Onoda firmly believed that he was carrying out a secret mission, which was to control the island before the Imperial Army returned, and he was convinced that the war had not yet ended.
