In 1995, Colonel Tevis (played by Steven Seagal) of the counter-terrorism special operations team led a rescue mission that ended in failure. Three months later, intelligence consultant David (played by Kurt Russell) received news that terrorist organization leader Abu Yafa had been captured and would be extradited to the United States. Ten days later, a 747 passenger plane flying from Athens to Washington was hijacked by Abu Yafa's deputy, Antal, who demanded the U.S. government release Abu Yafa. David was tasked with resolving the crisis and pointed out that the terrorists intended to use a poison gas bomb to attack the U.S. mainland, so they could not allow the plane to enter the country. At the meeting, Tevis proposed a bold plan: he wanted to lead the counter-terrorism special operations team to board the hijacked 747 via aerial docking.
