It was an era filled with the turmoil of war. A poor family in the Tongbai Mountain area sold their biological daughter, Xiaohua, to make a living, and then adopted a baby girl left behind by the Red Army, also named Xiaohua. Several years later, Xiaohua (played by Chen Chong)'s brother, Zhao Yongping (played by Tang Guoqiang), fled to join the revolutionary forces to avoid being conscripted. He was injured and fell behind during a battle but was saved by a female guerrilla leader, He Cuigu (played by Liu Xiaoqing), who was actually another Xiaohua sold by her parents years ago. At this time, Zhao Xiaohua encountered her biological mother, Dr. Zhou (played by Bai Li), while searching for her brother in the liberation army entering the Tongbai Mountains. The two women did not recognize each other during their reunion, but later, Dr. Zhou sympathized with the poor girl and took her as a goddaughter. Thus, family members who had been separated for years reunited amidst the chaos of war, coming together to realize their common ideals and compose a magnificent heroic song. The film is adapted from the novel 'Tongbai Heroes' and won the Best Feature Film Award at the third Hundred Flowers Awards in 1980. Chen Chong received the Best Actress Award at the same awards and also at the 9th 'Fight for Freedom' Film Festival in Yugoslavia.
