In 1942, the flames of war ignited by the Japanese army’s invasion of China reached the central plains of Hebei. Submitting meant a certain death, so rising up in resistance was the only way out. The people of Hebei were mobilized to resist the Japanese army, and the village of Gaojiazhuang gathered a large number of militia. To counter the Japanese army’s airplanes and artillery, the local people dug a network of complex tunnels using the terrain. The militia leader Gao Chuanbao (played by Zhu Longguang) utilized these ingenious tunnels to lead the militia in guerrilla warfare against the Japanese. Although they suffered significantly due to the betrayal of a traitor, Tang Binghui, within their ranks, the wise and brave Gao Chuanbao ultimately led the team to encircle and eliminate the Japanese troops using the tunnels, clear out Tang Binghui, and capture the Japanese leader, Yamashita, alive. The victory of the tunnel warfare became the loudest rallying cry for anti-Japanese resistance in central Hebei.
