The film is the first collaboration between director Yutaka Doii and screenwriter Yuji Sakamoto for the big screen, based on the work "Quartet." The story tells of how the male and female protagonists meet by chance after missing the last train at Meidaimae Station in Tokyo. They then embark on a five-year romance, where all the coincidences of era, time, and place synchronously unfold like fate, depicting their confused journey during a time when they are neither adults nor children.
