In May 1942, Japanese puppet troops organized by the enemy leader Ningshi invaded our Hebei Central Plain for a large-scale sweep. To cover the main force's retreat, Yan Zhigang (played by Ling Xin) stayed behind with his men to continue the fight. After being besieged by the enemy, they scattered to break through. Yan was injured in the battle and was rescued back home to recover by the resistance member Li Daniu (played by Chen Lizhong) and his daughter-in-law Fengxia (played by Li Xuehong). The enemy's brigade commander (played by Yan Jizhou) learned that there were Eighth Route Army troops hidden in the village and boasted that he would capture Yan Zhigang alive. After recovering from his injuries, Yan's carelessness led to a mishap; during a mission, he was followed by spies, resulting in losses for our side, and he felt immense guilt. The tunnel warfare invented by the people of the Hebei Central Plain made the arrogant enemy suffer greatly. Once, the enemy concentrated their forces at Liujiaying Village to seize grain; the combat mission was assigned to Yan Zhigang in coordination with the county's battalion.
