Unlike the previously announced theatrical release, this over 80-minute animated film will be released directly on DVD in the United States on June 5, in both standard and special editions. The fifth installment of the series, "Highlander The Source," will also be released in North America by Lionsgate in September. This animated version, which is being released in June, represents a new attempt by the producers of the "Highlander" series in collaboration with the esteemed Japanese animation master. The animation is co-produced by the Japanese company MADHOUSE, which has maintained a long-term partnership with Amano, and the American company MANGA, which specializes in distributing Japanese animations, with Hong Kong's Yima Animation Company (which is also involved in the upcoming 3D animated film "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles") participating in the production. It will use the same approach as "Vampire Hunter D," having its English dubbed version released in the United States first, followed by the Japanese dubbed version later, but it remains unclear whether there will be a theatrical release in Japan.
