In 1947, the Liu-Deng army advanced into the Dabie Mountains. To force a crossing of the Ru River, the military leaders ordered the destruction of supplies. The artillery commander (played by Wang Zhigang) disobeyed the orders and did not blow them up, leading to his dismissal by the brigade commander Fang Jun (played by Wang Danhua). At this time, the enemy, led by Chang Bai Jianye (played by Zhou Chu), had already deployed troops on both banks of the Ru River for encirclement. After fierce battles, our army met up with the guerrilla forces. Fang Jun, seeing his long-separated mother (played by Su Hui), learned of the changes that had happened at home.
