In the bright, bustling metropolis of Tokyo, the distance between people's hearts is growing further apart. Executive Shangliang (played by Nakahara Takeo) at a certain company receives devastating news: his beloved daughter, Xiaolu, has committed suicide due to love, driving him nearly to the brink of collapse. His subordinate, Ishida, who once secretly loved Xiaolu, tries to help Mr. Shangliang through his grief and also to vent his own depression. Ishida contacts a female assassin named Ling (played by Rinko Kikuchi) through a broker, requesting her to kill Xiaolu's boyfriend, David (played by Sergi López), a wine merchant from Spain. Ling is a solitary woman who works at the Tokyo fish market, using heavy labor to prevent herself from thinking. Her only friend is an elderly, silent sound engineer (played by Tanaka Min). After accepting Ishida's job, she visits David's store alone, and after a brief conversation, unexpected feelings begin to surge within her. The assassin and the target, a misplaced entanglement of emotions begins... This film was nominated for the Palme d'Or in the main competition at the 62nd Cannes Film Festival, with Isabelle Coisette as a nominee, and it also won the FIPRESCI Prize at the same festival. It was nominated for Best Sound at the 24th Goya Awards.
